Fruit and Works
-
-
Dear fellow Christian. You have opened this teaching because you are interested
and convicted that you should know more about this most important subject.
-
-
Please read previous teachings on this web site1 first, called
Spiritual Fruits; on works please go to Two Verses.
-
-
I think that you will agree that most "Christian" denominations have gone
away from the Truth of the word in some way or another. The evidence being
that there are some thousands of denominations and sects trying to tell
it their way - the simple truth of the gospel.
-
The early Christian church had the same problems and needed the beloved
apostle Paul to correct them. Paul is no longer with us but his Empowered
words are.
-
A good example is the letter to the church in Galatia:
-
O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the
truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified
among you? This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the
works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having
begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Have ye suffered
so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. He therefore that
ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth
he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Even as
Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Know
ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of
Abraham.
-
(Galatians 3:1-7)
-
For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty
for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the
law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy
neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed
that ye be not consumed one of another. This I say then, Walk in
the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh
lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these
are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that
ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now
the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery,
fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred,
variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders,
drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before,
as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things
shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But
the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness,
goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no
law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections
and lusts. If we live in the
Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous
of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
-
(Galatians 5:13-26)
-
-
Also Philippians:
-
And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured
with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers,
whose names are in the book of life. Rejoice in the Lord alway:
and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all
men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing
by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made
known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding,
shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever
things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things
are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there
be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and
seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
-
(Philippians 4:3-9)
-
-
It should be perfectly clear that Spiritual fruit does not involve works
of the Law, but rather God's moral law, for we each know what is right
and wrong, which is an attitude of mind. Works that please God (charity)
will follow as a result of conviction, and love and compassion; fruit generated
by the Holy Spirit to our spirits. Spiritual gifts shall follow and so
shall miracles, healings etc. For His glory, not ours. He is the King!
-
-
Jesus Christ is larger than Christianity.
-
While the following is undoubtedly true;
-
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and
the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
-
(John 14:6)
-
not all peoples have the privilege of being able to hear about Him on this
earth for political or repressive reasons.
-
Jesus came for the Jews and was part of the Old Covenant of the Law:
-
But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto
the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
-
(Matthew 15:24)
-
-
Everyone who ever was, is or shall be, willl have the opportunity of accepting
the Lordship of Jesus Christ, whether in the here and now or then, after
death. Those who live in a country with a Christian background it is the
here and now. Those who follow other religions in far-off lands shall be
preached to by the Lord Jesus Christ in a spiritual place with various
names.
-
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold:
them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be
one fold, and one shepherd.
-
(John 10:16)
-
Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou
sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came
I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every
one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
-
(John 18:37)
-
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and
to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to
God by thy blood[2] out of every kindred, and tongue, and people,
and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall
reign on the earth. And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels
round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of
them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; Saying
with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power,
and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the
earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying,
Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth
upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
-
(Revelation 5:9-13)
-
-
Works by commandments are worldly.
-
Works by invitation are Spiritual,
-
Fruit is our attitude (conviction and compassion) to the things of the
world, and in the world; the outshining of the indwelling Holy Spirit,
forgiving others of their evil intentions instead of being critical, disparaging
etc.
-
*A Psalm of David.* Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither
be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be
cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the LORD,
and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt
be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires
of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he
shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness
as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the LORD, and wait
patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his
way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Cease from
anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
-
(Psalms 37:1-8)
-
-
Being good, as in the sense that God is good (Genesis 1:4), is something
that we each have to work at, overcoming our sinful flesh, so that others
who are searching for something better will think and say "I want what
he (or she) has got"
-
Fruits are as the result of attitude. Grace, and resultant works are what
the Holy Spirit lovingly asks of us for His (Their, our) Kingdom.( Ephesians
2:6-10)
-
We gladly comply, being grateful for the honour bestowed upon us.
-
God will never ask us to do more for the eventual benefit of the Kingdom
than we each are able to perform.
-
Our flesh may rebel but we must work at overcoming because we (our Spiritual
bloodless bodies) will be used in His service one day.
-
-
Look at these:
-
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and
all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his
glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate
them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the
goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right [Covenant2] hand,
but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right
hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you
from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me
meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took
me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in
prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying,
Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and
gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee
in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in
prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them,
Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the
least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Then shall
he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into
everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: For I was an hungred,
and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a
stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and
in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying,
Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked,
or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer
them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to
one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall
go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
-
(Matthew 25:31-46)
-
I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated
them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou
shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I
am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into
the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might
be sanctified through the truth. Neither pray I for these alone, but for
them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may
be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also
may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
-
(John 17:14-21)
-
But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles
of our Lord Jesus Christ; How that they told you there should be mockers
in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These
be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. But ye,
beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the
Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of
our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making
a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the
fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Now unto him that is
able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before
the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our
Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and
ever. Amen.
